Each year in Zen monasteries, monks and nuns commemorate Buddha’s awakening during a silent six-day retreat. As Buddha in his own time, they sit in zazen for a great part of the day and night.
This year, this Rôhatsu Sesshin took place during the lockdown period. It was nonetheless possible to take part in it online by connecting to the monastery’s site.
During the mondo – questions-answers – the online participants were also able to ask questions.
After these days in meditation, everyone is happy.
The retreat ends on December 8th with a big ceremony commemorating Buddha’s awakening.
Many thanks to the technical assistant who spent six days shut up in this cramped little room without window. He made it possible for the 40 online participants to share this wonderful retreat with the residents.
